GFA in cooperation with national universities supports the National Authority for Civil Servants and other partners in developing a decentralized training system for local level civil servants. The first Massive Open Online Course in Applied Administrative Procedure Law fostering good governance and state reform was launched in 2015, and reached 10.000 civil servants. The training strategy for the second phase builds on more presence-based approaches and blended learning in order to boost the effectiveness of the learning approach.

Pre- and in-service teacher training, Pakistan

GFA works with the University of the Punjab and the University of Kaiserslautern to improve the quality of TVET teachers in Pakistan by implementing a bachelor program in Technical Education and a national in-service training scheme for 8,500 TVET teachers. The blended learning approach combines face-to-face training, self-study, industry placement and teaching practice through an online platform. Supported by 100 trained tutors, the in-service program combines self-study with tutor-assisted face-to-face sessions, delivered through 18 e-learning rooms nationwide.

Access of poor women to health services, Tanzania

As to reduce maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality, GFA is providing technical assistance to the National Health Insurance Fund. By using a mobile phone application, providers enrol pregnant women into health insurance and, at the same time, register them for a pregnancy care text-messaging service. With messages timed according to the stage of pregnancy, women receive treatment reminders for ante-natal care services, plus information updates on pregnancy, general health, nutrition, HIV, and child care.

E-Learning on managing health facilities, Worldwide

GFA developed an international web-based course for managers of health facilities in low-resource settings, comprising four training modules on hospital management, human resources, quality services, and financial management. The course used a variety of learning approaches, activities and media to motivate and retain participants. It emphasised a strong practical approach to ensure its relevance to participants with different backgrounds, interests and levels of experience.
