More than 80% of the workforce in Ghana is employed in the informal sector. Therefore, this innovative project seeks to improve the quality of the traditional apprenticeship system in Ghana by linking micro and small businesses with the formal TVET system. GFA facilitates joint standard development by the Council of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET) and informal sector trade associations, and supports TVET schools in implementing complementary competency-based training courses to master craftspersons and their apprentices.
