In January 2018, GFA, in consortium with Prospect C&S, started the program “Support to the Platform for Agricultural Risk Management (PARM) through NEPAD’s Agriculture and Food Insecurity Risk Management (AFIRM)”. Financed by BMZ through KfW, the program is hosted at NEPAD’s offices in Midrand, South Africa, and addresses a selection of PARM pilot countries throughout Africa. The specific objective of the program is to support the successful implementation of pilot infrastructure measures to apply agricultural risk management tools identified in the PARM process. PARM, an outcome of the G8 and G20 discussions on food security and agricultural growth, was launched in December 2013 at IFAD in Rome. The platform facilitates the identification, assessment, quantification and management of agricultural risks in partner countries and aims at becoming a knowledge broker and coordinator. NEPAD was a founding member of PARM and contributes to it through its Agriculture and Food Insecurity Risk Management Program. The GFA-Prospect-team supports NEPAD’s Program Management Unit (PMU) in the identification and implementation of mentioned infrastructure pilot projects. The projects are aimed to be at community level in order to catalyze private sector investment and produce evidence-based models for further replication. The general support to the PMU in terms of project management (KFW disposition fund, etc.) is also part of the GFA-Prospect-team’s mandate. At this stage, the program is equipped with € 5 million and runs from January 2018 to December 2021.
