Launching National Air Quality Monitoring Network Phase II in Lebanon

Under the patronage of the EU Head Delegation in Lebanon, Amb. Christina Lassen and the Minister of Environment Mr. Tarek El Khatib celebrated the installation of the National Air Quality Monitoring Network – Phase II, supported through the EU-funded StREG (Support to Reforms – Environmental Governance) Program. The event took place on October 24, 2017 at Horsh Beirut, the largest public garden in Beirut.
 
The opening speech was done by Amb. Lassen, followed by the Minister El Khatib’s speech conveyed by the Senior Environmental Advisor of the Minister, Dr. Manal Moussallem. Afterwards, the Deputy Mayor of Beirut delivered a speech, in which he highlighted the efforts taken on the part of the Beirut Municipality to increase green areas in the Municipal Beirut. Later, two presentations were given by the AQMN team, first in English, and the latter in Arabic.
 
This event is part of the EU project “Support to Reforms - Environmental Governance in Lebanon”. The overall objective of the project is to improve the environmental performance of the Lebanese public sector through reforming environmental governance. The specific objective of this project is to create effective capacity at the Ministry of Environment to plan and execute environmental policy, including enforcement and mainstreaming, by coordinating with key line-ministries.
