Capacity development in the transport sector
The Capacity Development in the Transport Sector Programme (CDTS) had an effective approach in tackling two major challenges Liberia was faced with: Lacking road infrastructure and unemployment of the youth. Road construction and road maintenance opened up opportunities for labor-intensive employment and the establishment of local small and medium-sized companies (MSME) offering related construction and maintenance services. The lack of quality vocational education and well-trained technical personnel though presented a significant barrier for Liberians to take advantage of these employment opportunities generated. The project focused on strengthening the role of the private sector and job placement services.
