Efficiency and credibility strengthening of the criminal justice system

The project sought to strengthen governance mechanisms within the police, judicial and penitentiary institutions. It aimed at contributing to the building of state accountability, legitimacy, credibility and at encouraging public institutions to enhance public policies and service delivery for the benefit of the people of Iraq. The strategic orientations of the project were linked to the three results proposed by the program and the main priorities of the project, which were:

• Support and actively encourage compliance with international norms and standards through the modernisation of the legal framework and the promotion of cross-cutting issues;
• establish and consolidate synergy and coordination between the different justice institutions, information sharing and sustainability of project results; 
• strengthen capacity development of key justice institutions for better delivery of justice services.
