Spatial planning and environmental protection in the Río Plátano Region (PROTEP)

Honduras
KfW, 2010 - 2016
Contract value: 5,218,395 EUR

The Río Plátano biosphere reserve represents the heart of the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor. The project aimed at implementing protection and conservation strategies in the reserve area and its adjacent territories. GFA services comprised regularization of land property and land use rights based on the establishment and maintenance of decentralized multipurpose cadastre. The development and successful implementation of quality management principles for public services strengthened the municipal administration and fostered responsible land governance. Participatory land development plans at municipal level, the establishment of a trust fund for the biosphere reserve as well as measures to promote local economic development were also implemented.
