Ethiopia
KfW, 2016 - 2020
Contract value: 2,178,553 EUR

Given that Ethiopia is undoubtedly one of the Sub-Saharan Africa countries most seriously affected by land degradation, the project approach focused on integrated and participatory watershed development and management at the grass root level. Project objectives were to improve livelihoods, food security and the economic well-being of the country’s farmers, herders and forest resource users, to rebuild Ethiopia’s natural capital assets and to mitigate the negative impacts of land degradation. One of the project components therefore was to restore forest land area by reforestation on both private and communal land.
