Project description
The Turkish Ministry of Health wishes to strengthen the national cancer screening and cancer registry systems, with the overall goal of improving early detection and reducing cancer-related morbidity and mortality.The project focuses on upgrading and accrediting cancer registry centers, enhancing data quality and use, expanding mobile screening services, and increasing public and professional awareness of cancer screening—particularly among rural and disadvantaged populations. Key activities include institutional capacity building, large-scale training programs, data quality and cost-efficiency analyses, nationwide communication campaigns, and deployment of mobile screening units, alongside coordination with existing health structures. The project is expected to start late September and run for 3 years. The implementation will require multidisciplinary expertise spanning public health, oncology, epidemiology, health systems strengthening, data management, training, and communication to support implementation and ensure sustainable improvements in screening coverage and cancer surveillance across Turkey.
Job description
The Cancer Screening & Public Health Expert will support the design, implementation, and strengthening of cancer screening services in Turkey, with a focus on improving coverage, quality, and accessibility of breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer screening programmes, i.a.
- Provide technical support to the implementation and improvement of population-based cancer screening programmes.
- Contribute to the development and adaptation of screening protocols, guidelines, and standard operating procedures in line with international best practices.
- Support activities aimed at expanding screening coverage, including outreach to underserved and disadvantaged populations.
- Provide inputs to the organization and optimization of mobile cancer screening services.
- Contribute to training activities for healthcare professionals involved in screening services.
- Support the monitoring and evaluation of screening programmes, including analysis of participation rates and service performance.
Qualifications
- University degree in public health, medicine, epidemiology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in public health and/or cancer screening programmes.
- Experience with population-based screening programmes (breast, cervical, and/or colorectal cancer).
- Familiarity with screening guidelines and preventive health services.
- Experience in training or capacity-building activities is an asset.
- Experience working in international or EU-funded projects is an advantage.
- Good analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of Turkish is an asset.
