The overall objective of the Zanzibar Water Security Project is to improve water security, sanitation services, and water resources management / groundwater monitoring and modelling in Zanzibar in support of sustainable and climate-resilient development. The project supports the Ministry of Water, Energy and Minerals in the implementation of priority investments and institutional measures across four components: (i) water supply (Component 1), (ii) water resources management (Component 2), (iii) sanitation and solid waste management (Component 3), and (iv) non-technical and institutional measures (Component 4).
The project covers the design, tendering, supervision, and institutional support of these components, with a particular focus on Components 1 and 3 as the main infrastructure investment areas.
GKW Consult (part of GFA GROUP, in lead) has formed a consortium with GFA Consulting Group GmbH.
The proposed Chief Resident Engineer will be responsible for the on-site management and supervision of construction works under Components 1 and 3 (water supply, sanitation and solid waste management) of the Zanzibar Water Security Project, ensuring compliance with approved designs, technical specifications, FIDIC contract conditions, and applicable environmental, social, health and safety standards. The role includes oversight of contractors’ performance, supervision teams, measurements, and interim payment certificates.
The Chief Resident Engineer will support progress reporting, address technical and contractual issues during implementation, and coordinate closely with the Team Leader, the Employer, and other stakeholders to ensure timely, high-quality, and contract-compliant project delivery.
