Project description

The project will provide technical assistance to the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry of the Government of Namibia and to relevant partner organisations from the private sector and civil society, for the promotion of the livestock sector in the Namibian Northern Communal Areas. Long and short term technical assistance would be required for the design and management of; a) monitoring and information systems; b) applied research, extension, mentoring and capacity building services; c) market promotion and marketing; d) animal health; e) programme administration
The project shall achieve the following results:

- Result 1) Livestock production systems and resilience to climate change are improved

- Result 2) Access of livestock farmers to domestic, regional and international markets is promoted

- Result 3) Implementation of animal disease management and eradication strategies is enhanced

Job description

The proposed Key Expert will facilitate a smooth and timely implementation of the project including the mobilisation of ad hoc expertise for short-term assignments if needed. He/she will be responsible for reporting to the programme management bodies and to EUD. He/she will also be responsible for the support of staff working under his/her authority and for the quality and timeliness of their deliverables.
 
Qualifications:


 - At least a Master's Degree (university or equivalent institution or a recognised professional qualification) in animal science, livestock, animal behavior, animal nutrition, veterinary science other relevant fields

- At least 10 years of relevant professional experience working in international development projects in the veterinary, livestock or agricultural sector


- At least 5 years of experience in projects aiming at improving livestock production systems and increasing market access for animal products

- Proven experience with working with bilateral and/or multilateral development partners – EU experience is an asset


- Initiative and proven ability to maintain harmonious working relationships in a multicultural setting with good leadership and team spirit

- Regional experience in Southern Africa, preferably Namibia, is an asset


- Fluency in both written and spoken English
