Job description
We´re currently looking for
Legal Advisors for Mining Sector Reforms
to support us in carrying out our projects and studies in the following areas:
- Review and Reform of Legal and Regulatory Frameworks: Assess existing mining, investment, land use, and environmental laws;
- Drafting of Laws, Regulations and Model Contracts: Draft or revise mining codes and secondary legislation, prepare model mining contracts and investment agreements;
- Design of Licensing and Institutional Procedures: Propose clear roles and workflows for permitting, oversight, and enforcement;
- Capacity Building for Government Institutions: Deliver legal training on mining law, contract negotiation, and regulatory implementation on a national or regional level.
Qualifications
- University degree (LL.M. or equivalent) in law, ideally with specialization in mining or environmental law;
- Fluent in English; French, Spanish, Portuguese or other languages are a plus (especially for work in Africa or Latin America);
- Excellent communication and reporting skills;
General Professional Experience:
- At least 3 years of consulting experience or legal practice in the raw material sector (exploration, mining, refining) for private companies or public sector;
Specific professional experience:
- Strong understanding of mining legal frameworks and licencing systems, in particular in emerging and developing countries;
- Familiarity with contract negotiation processes and legal drafting;
- Experience advising governments or international organizations (e.g. World Bank, GIZ, UNDP, AfDB);
- Background in regulatory systems, legal reform, or institutional design in resource-rich countries to improve mining sector governance;
- Capacity to work across cultures and sectors.
