Project description
The Project Architect or Civil Engineer will primarily provide technical support to our project across West Africa, which includes a component on health-infrastructure renovation covering primary healthcare facilities, laboratories, health-worker accommodation, and hospital extensions
It has not yet been decided where in West Africa the project's new office will be established. The expert’s workplace will most likely be located in this office, with travel within the region or the expert will join GFA in Hamburg or Berlin .
The position is initially based on a workload of 32 hours per week (80%)
Job description
- Responsible for the coordination, supervision, and quality assurance of civil engineering activities across all phases of the project cycle.
- Prepare regular reports for stakeholders, progress updates, project controlling, risk management and ensure timely submission and acceptance of high-quality deliverables and reports.
- Support the technical quality improvement of construction projects under local conditions.
- Support local tender processes.
- Support in advising partners, clients and International Financial Institutions (IFI).
- Short- and medium-term assignments abroad and support the backstopping of ongoing projects.
- Support multidisciplinary teams in the planning, design and supervision of communal (health) infrastructure projects in low- and middle-income countries.
- Contribute to our business development through tender preparation and active involvement in company initiatives within relevant sectors.
Qualifications
- A university degree in Civil, Construction, or Structural Engineering (preferably at the M.Sc. level), or in a related field; alternatively, a licensed architect.
- Preferably 6 years but at least 3 years of experience working on healthcare infrastructure.
- Solid experience in construction supervision.
- Experience in the formulation of BoQ, review/preparation of As-Built Drawings, daily logs and construction follow-ups.
- Fluency in French and German and at least working knowledge of English.
- Experience in implementation of FIDIC contracts is highly desired.
- Experience in tendering processes for IFI-financed projects (preferably KfW) is highly desirable.
- International experience, preferably in Sub-Saharan Africa and/or Asia.
- Willingness to travel frequently to low- and middle-income countries, particularly in Africa.
- Confident demeanor, open-mindedness, and a solution-oriented approach towards clients and colleagues.
