Project description
The overall objective of the Zanzibar Water Security Project is to improve water security, sanitation services, and water resources management / groundwater monitoring and modelling in Zanzibar in support of sustainable and climate-resilient development. The project supports the Ministry of Water, Energy and Minerals in the implementation of priority investments and institutional measures across four components: (i) water supply (Component 1), (ii) water resources management (Component 2), (iii) sanitation and solid waste management (Component 3), and (iv) non-technical and institutional measures (Component 4).
The project covers the design, tendering, supervision, and institutional support of these components, with a particular focus on Components 1 and 3 as the main infrastructure investment areas.
GKW Consult (part of GFA GROUP, in lead) has formed a consortium with GFA Consulting Group GmbH.
Job description
The Team Leader will be responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of the Consultant’s services in the frame of the Zanzibar Water Security Project, with a particular focus on Components 1 and 3 (water supply, sanitation and solid waste management), for the design and Works tendering phases of the project.
The Team Leader will act as the primary interface between the Consultant, the Ministry of Water, Energy and Minerals, and KfW, and will oversee strategic planning, coordination of key experts, reporting, and compliance with KfW guidelines and contractual obligations.
Qualifications
- Professional experience:
- 15 years of international professional experience in the water supply and sanitation sector;
- University degree in a relevant field;
- Excellent command of oral and written English.
- Project/task related experience:
- Project management for at least 4 projects (international experience) of similar nature in the water supply and sanitation sector;
- Preparation of detailed design and preparation of tender documents for water supply and sanitation infrastructure and profound knowledge of FIDIC/conditions of contracts is essential;
- Experience with groundwater monitoring and modelling and/or knowledge of institutional consulting for public utilities in the water supply and sanitation sector would be an asset;
- Team leader experience:
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience as a team leader for projects with similar magnitude and complexity in project management of a team composed of international and national experts.
- Local and regional experience in Sub-Saharan Africa
