Improving maternal & newborn care in Cambodia

The project Improving Maternal & Newborn Care in Cambodia held a closure and dissemination workshop in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on March 15, 2019. On behalf of the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the project was implemented by GIZ together with GFA Consulting Group, the Cambodian NGO Reproductive & Child Health Alliance (RACHA) and the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM). The workshop was presided over by H.E. Prof. Eng Huot, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Health, H.E. Prof. Chhour Y Meng, Under-Secretary of State of the Ministry of Health and Dr. Günter Riethmacher, Country Director at GIZ Cambodia.  The event was attended by more than 150 participants from national, provincial and district health departments, NGOs and development partners.

In his opening address, H.E. Prof Eng Hout expressed his satisfaction and gratitude for the excellent work accomplished by the project team, and repeated the country’s commitment towards improving maternal and new born care. Dr. Riethmacher congratulated the Royal Government of Cambodia for its impressive progress in achieving SDGs, and expressed his appreciation for the excellent cooperation provided by the Royal Government of Cambodia. The workshop provided a platform to share project outputs and lessons learnt with a wide array of stakeholders. A photo documentary titled “Together for healthy mothers & babies” was also launched at the event. The publication provides insights into improved maternal and neonatal care as witnessed by midwives, nurses, and medical doctors, and demonstrates the impact of the project.
