Capacity building for intermediaries in the Ethiopian innovation ecosystem

Ethiopia
GIZ, 2022 - 2024
Contract value: 1,565,600 EUR

Output 3 of the Private Sector Development in Ethiopia (PSD-E) program strengthens the capacity and service offerings of intermediaries in the innovation support environment dedicated to the promotion of start-ups and fast-growing SMEs. These often fledgling actors are strengthened in their competencies to develop sustainable and future-oriented organizational and business models that simultaneously take into account the additional challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic (e.g. smaller sales markets, disrupted supply chains) and enable them to develop demand-driven service offerings. The creation and expansion of networks between intermediaries and other stakeholders (research and educational institutions, venture capitalists, etc.) at regional and international level will be supported.

The target groups of the module are owners/managers of MSMEs, start-ups and small growing businesses (SGBs), who will benefit from improved legal frameworks and services. Activities will be particularly targeted at women-owned enterprises, whose needs will be given special attention in the provision of services and advice, as well as enterprises affected by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Employees of enterprises are also targeted.
