Capacity building for intermediaries in the Ethiopian innovation ecosystem

Ethiopia
GIZ, 2022 - 2024
Contract value: 1,565,600 EUR

Output 3 of the Private Sector Development in Ethiopia (PSDE) program strengthens the capacity and service offering of intermediaries in the innovation support environment dedicated to the promotion of start-ups and fast growing SMEs. These often fledgling actors are strengthened in their competencies to develop sustainable and future-oriented organizational and business models that simultaneously take into account the additional challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic (e.g., smaller sales markets, disrupted supply chains) and enable them to develop demand-driven service offerings. The establishment and expansion of networks between intermediaries and other stakeholders (research and educational institutions, venture capitalists, etc.) is promoted at regional and international levels.

The target groups of the module are owners/managers of MSMEs, start-ups and small growing businesses (SGBs) who benefit from improved legal frameworks and services. The activities are aimed in particular at women-owned businesses, whose needs are given special consideration in service and consulting offerings, and at businesses affected by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Employees of the companies are also part of the target group.
