EU preparedness: analysis, planning, reporting, and training programmes for health specialists
The project was implemented under the EU4Health Programme for the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA), acting under the mandate of the European Commission, with strategic guidance from the Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE). It addressed the need to strengthen prevention, preparedness and response capacities for serious cross-border health threats across EU Member States and EEA countries. Lessons from COVID-19 and other recent cross-border health threats highlighted the importance of well-trained professionals who can coordinate effectively across sectors and borders. Against this background, the project aimed to strengthen the knowledge, skills and collaboration of public health professionals and preparedness practitioners through an applied, competency-based training programme.
GFA Consulting Group, leading a consortium with KIT Royal Tropical Institute and Think Modular, developed, tested and rolled out a competency-based EU Preparedness Training Programme, informed by a comprehensive training needs assessment and a mapping of existing training offers. Through training courses, Exchange Visits and National Workshops, the project also promoted multisectoral and cross-border knowledge exchange. In total, 46 events reached more than 1,360 participants and contributed to strengthening prevention, preparedness and response capacities across Europe.
