Governance and sustainable management of natural resources in the Comoé and Taï region (Pro2GRN)

Ivory Coast
GIZ, 2023 - 2025
Contract value: 2,250,474 EUR

The Pro2GRN, which until February 2023 only covered the Comoé and Tai regions, was extended to the Bossématié region after the classified forest was upgraded to a nature reserve (Réserve naturelle de Bossématié, RNB) in March 2022, under the supervision of the Ivorian Office of Parks and Reserves (OIPR). It is considered an area of international importance for biodiversity, but in recent years has become a hotspot for deforestation due to the expansion of cocoa cultivation, illegal harvesting of NTFPs and gold panning. The main objective of the project is therefore to support the OIPR in the areas of RNB management, local governance of natural resources, capacity building for its agents and the introduction of (agro)forestry techniques in the Bossématié area, always using a participatory approach and making the most of the experience gained in Comoé and Tai.

The consoritum of GFA and Unique will contribute to the following outputs:

  • Output 1: Strengthening the capacity of the local population to manage natural resources sustainably and increase agricultural production.
  • Output 2: Strengthening the capacity of the OIPR to improve the efficiency of management and the quality of governance of the RNB.
  • Output 4: Integration of agroforestry and forestry measures into agricultural land use practices and into the extension services of government and private service providers.
