Governance and sustainable management of natural resources in the Comoé and Tai area - Pro2GRN
To reduce deforestation and forest degradation, the Ivorian government plans to promote agroforestry systems on a large scale as part of its REDD+ strategy. At the same time, it sees this as a contribution to achieving its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement. In its NDC, the government commits to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 28% by 2030. It focuses on the following sectors: energy, agriculture, forestry and waste.
The project will develop a monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) mechanism in the Comoé region to measure the impact of agroforestry activities implemented under the EU-funded GIZ project Governance and Sustainable Management of Natural Resources in the Comoé and Tai Regions, Côte dIvoire. The MRV system should be able to assess the following parameters 1. the impact of ongoing project activities on reducing greenhouse gas emissions; and 2. the potential impact of expanding project activities on greenhouse gas emissions. The system must also be consistent with the approaches and processes related to national communications on NDCs. The project will be implemented under the overall supervision of the national authority Direction de la Lutte contre les Changements Climatiques (MINEDD/DLCC).
