Kenya
KfW, 2017 - 2021
Contract value: 2,221,327 EUR

The KfW-funded  Nairobi Satellite Towns Water and Sanitation Development Programme (NST-WSDP) and Nairobi City Water Distribution Network Modifications Project (NBO-CWDNP) aimed to extend existing water supply systems and bring water and sanitation services to not yet served neighbourhoods. For assuring the sustainable operation of these water and sanitation assets and to reach an improved cost coverage and collection efficiency it was intended to carry out accompanying trainings for the responsible operating utilities as well as for the respective counties and other stakeholders. The areas and towns benefitting from the above investment programs, the so-called Water Service Providers (WSP), were: Ruiru – Juja Water and Sewerage Company Limited (RUJWASCO), Oloolaiser Water and Sewerage Company Limited (OWSC), and Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Limited (NCWSC).

The project was designed in two steps: In step 1 the Accompanying Training Consultant  (ATC) analyzed the capacities and knowledge gaps of the different beneficiaries and identifies the respective training needs. Based on the training needs assessment, different training and performance improvement measures shall be developed. In step 2, the ATC assisted in implementing accompanying training measures for the beneficiaries and closely monitors the related activities. The training measures mainly refered to enhancing the institutional, financial and technical capacity of the WSPs in managing their daily tasks. These were predominantly practical training, twinning of staff or third party courses and on the job trainings.
