Natural resources management and value chain development

Burkina Faso
GIZ, 2010 - 2013
Contract value: 1,106,500 EUR

GFA implemented the natural resource management (NRM) component of a GIZ agricultural development project (PDA) in Burkina Faso. Local communities and farmer groups in selected watersheds were supported to plan, establish and maintain erosion protection measures. Farmers felt motivated to participate as the measures slow down water runoff, and improved water retention and soil fertility. They were advised on the production, processing and marketing of peanuts as to made best use of secured surfaces. The support of the value chain aimed at an improved cropping pattern and additional income for farmers and small scale processing businesses.
