Social security for the poor to improve maternal and neonatal health and HIV prevention

Tanzania
KfW, 2016 - 2019
Contract value: 1,678,189 EUR

The KfW-funded program in Tanzania (phase 1 and 2) reduced maternal and neonatal mortality by providing poor pregnant women with full health insurance coverage through the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). GFA was responsible for managing the EUR 27,000,000 contingency fund, which was used to reimburse pregnant women and newborns for insurance claims submitted to the NHIF. In addition, the GFA team conducted several trainings on quality care for service providers and designed and developed a feedback mechanism for beneficiaries.
