AccèsBanque Madagascar (ABM) received a loan of EUR 4 million from KfW with the objective to improve access to financial services adapted to the needs of the low-income population. The technical assistance measure, implemented by GFA, supports ABM with the implementation of the following three components:

  1. Loan product for renewable energy and energy efficiency (RE/EE) investments: Support in the development of innovative loan products to finance RE/EE investments by MSMEs. This includes, among other things, a demand analysis, the development and implementation of loan products, as well as training of loan officers and raising awareness among potential customers. In particular, a Solar PAYG business model has been developed to promote further off-grid electrification in Madagascar.
  2. Housing loan product: Analysis of the target group of the existing housing loan product, and if necessary, support to adapt it. Support in expanding the housing loan portfolio outside of urban areas. This includes a demand analysis for housing/renovation loans, product development, training loan officers in the respective agencies and raising awareness among clients in the regions. For both credit products, women will be specifically considered as a target group and supported by developing financial products adapted to their needs.
  3. Improving the efficiency of credit assessment processes: Support in the definition, development and implementation of a credit evaluation process based on a tablet application for agri- and SME loans of ABM. The GFA team accompanies and advises the ABM team during the software development, process integration and pilot testing of the new application.
