Sustainable land management

Ethiopia
GIZ, 2012 - 2014
Contract value: 2,120,510 EUR

The sustainable land management program’s overall objective is to enhance food security and reduce land degradation in rural highland regions. GFA contributes to upscaling successful land management practices and digitalizes the monitoring system of the program. GFA pilots a fully digital data collection and reporting system that improves data quality, timeliness and transparency.

For upscaling land management practices, the GFA team developed customized land management extension packages and training aids for the extension service, improved training methods and supported the responsible authority in identifying and publishing best practices. The modules were used in a training-of-trainers approach by experts and master trainers to district trainers and local development agents who regularly advised farmers and farmer groups. Each training module followed a participatory and action-oriented learning approach and comprised distinctive training manuals for each target group as well as various practical teaching and learning aids for farmers.
