The Sustainable mobility in medium-sized metropolitan regions (SMMR) project supported four metropolitan regions across Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and Thailand in their ambitions to create metropolitan mobility planning procedures. The project objective was that ASEAN as well as metropolitan regions of its member states have prepared integrated implementation strategies and included concepts for integrated, sustainable mobility into their development activities. Mobility planning was strengthened as a vehicle to promote metropolitan governance. The project reviewed and learned from experiences in the region and supported the introduction of regional governance in the metropolitan regions and based on this develop integrated transport concepts. Additionally, a regional learning process between metropolitan regions disseminated practical knowledge beyond the partner metropolitan regions. At ASEAN level, activities from regional strategies had been promoted and implemented sustainable mobility in metropolitan regions.
