Honduras
GIZ, 2010 - 2013
Contract value: 2,767,127 EUR

The overall objective of the project was the promotion of the governmental, municipal and local actors in the field of sustainable management of natural ressources in the Departments of Olancho, del Occidente and the Biosphere of the Rio Plátano.

The project worked on the national, municipal and local level to improve the management of natural ressources and local economic development.

The German contribution aimed at minimizing the losses incurred by forest fires and deforestation; improving the incomes of producers by 10% (coffee, timber, cocoa) within three years; promoting the participation of women in the management of community-based organizations; elaborating environmental plans in at least four municipalities.

Within the framework of project implementation, the environmental and economic impact of investments in agriculture and forestry, the processing of products (for instance organic coffee for export, cocoa and wood products) or environmental tourism as well as the search and management of public-private partnerships (PPP) were particularly important.
