ECELP Brochure available for download
The Eastern Caribbean Energy Labeling Project was officially concluded in March 2014. Now, a brochure was published summarising the objectives, activities and achievements of the project.
The Eastern Caribbean Energy Labelling Project (ECELP) was financed by the EU ACP Energy Facility, the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the OECS Commission. The OECS Commission and the Caribbean Renewable Energy Development Programme (CREDP-GIZ) jointly implemented it between February 2012 and March 2014. Participating countries were the six independent OECS member states:
Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The project aims at increasing the Energy Effi-ciency (EE) in the OECS region by introducing EE standards and labels for electrical household appliances and lighting equipment and promot-ing the use of energy-efficient products.

The Eastern Caribbean Energy Labeling Project ECELP officially ends as project, but continues as program

On 31/03/2014 the EU, German Government and OECS financed Eastern Caribbean Energy Labeling Project officially ended in its current phase. Among the project's main achievements are the "Energy Sense = Dollar Savings" campaign, which the core piece of the project's public awareness campaign that included also information flyers and brochures on energy efficiency labelling. The project assisted the national bureaux of standards in the six independent OECS countries to test the energy efficiency of refrigerators and the durability of energy saving light bulbs. The introduction of energy labelling standards for household appliances was prepared and will be implemented by the national governments in the next phase. Mr. Bentley Browne, Director Social and Sustainable Development of the OECS Secretariat, said at the project closing workshop in February: "Albeit the EU and German Government financed phase of ECELP comes to an end, the Secretariat will continue the project as a program as it is important for the Member States".

Review of the Status of the Interconnection of Distributed Renewables to the Grid in CARICOM Countries
The present study presents a snapshot of the current situation for renewable energy based distributed electricity generation in CARICOM states. It captures the status quo of regulatory framework conditions, market developments and an outlook for the future. This report is a good compilation of data for all interested in the Caribbean Renewable Energy Sector.

ECELP Public Awareness Campaign launched

ECELP has officially launched its public awareness campaign in the 6 ECELP Member States of Antigua & Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Kitts & Nevis and St. Vincent & the Grenadines. The campaign informs the wide public about the advantages of using the information given on energy efficiency labels to purchase energy efficient appliances, save energy and money. The campaign was launched in various media events in the member countries and will be broadcasted until end of 2013 on various radio and TV stations. LED Street Lighting Pilot Project Report
Financed by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), CREDP-GIZ and VINLEC have concluded a pilot project on LED street lighting. The project evaluated fixtures of 6 manufacturers based on measurements and soft indicators. The conclusions summarised in the report will allow future project designers to learn from experiences with regards to LED street lighting application in the Caribbean.

Hydropower potential assessment completed for St. Lucia

Using an innovative GIS based method, CREDP-GIZ has analysed the technical and economical hydropower potential of St. Lucia and Dominica. The results are compiled in two reports that use mainly graphical visualisation to show the results. The reports can be downloaded from the download section of by clicking here.

Hydropower potential assessment completed for Dominica

The analysis that was made on the hydropower potential in St. Lucia was repeated in Dominica to assess the island's hydropower potential. The findings are summarised in the respective report that can be downloaded here.
