Saint Lucia Cabinet approves National Energy Policy

On Monday, 21st July 2010 the Cabinet of St. Lucia approved the National Energy Policy that was drafted with assistance of CREDP-GTZ's policy expert and further developed in co-operation with OAS's EU financed project CSEP. We would like to commend the government of St. Lucia for this excellent step forward. The policy will cater for possibilities of independent power producers to develop activities in St. Lucia's energy market and foresees the possibility for private parties to connect small scale renewable energy generation facilities to the public grid.

Following on the National Energy Policy legislation changes have to be passed now, for instance in the Energy Supply Act, and other legislation and regulation have to be put in place to facilitate the development of a flourishing sustainable energy sector in St. Lucia.
