Seminar on “Effects of Septic Tanks in Centralized Sewerage Systems” - Horison Hotel - November 2006
The seminar on “Effects of Septic Tanks in Centralized Sewerage Systems” was carried out on November 3rd, 2006 in the Horison Hotel Hanoi with 54 participants, including representatives from Vietnamese wastewater service providers, donor organizations and consultants currently working on wastewater projects in Vietnam. A series of presentations were followed by a brainstorming session and discussions on the pros and cons of septic tanks within urban areas under the condition of centralized wastewater collection and treatment, focusing on ‘prevailing constraints’, ‘technical options’ and ‘economic & institutional aspects’. However, the audience could not reach a consensus on the need to abandon or to keep septic tanks in operation in combination with centralized wastewater discharge systems.
