Canal T2 Cleaning Campaign in Hai Duong |
To celebrate the recognition of Hai Duong City as a class-two urban center on October 30, 2009, Hai Duong Urban Public Works Management Company (UPWMC) and the Hai Duong City cell of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union jointly implemented the campaign “Cleaning Canal T2” on October 17, 2009.
A total of more than 200 volunteer Youth Union members from local schools, universities and several other institutions as well as workers from the Hai Duong UPWMC’s wastewater division participated in the event.
The campaign aimed to change attitudes and behavior on environmental protection in the community, hence, to contribute to the improvement of public health of residents dwelling around the canal.
Besides supporting the organization of the campaign the “Wastewater and Solid Waste Management in Provincial Centers” program assisted the local government of Thanh Binh Ward (Hai Duong City) to install four waste bins along T2 canal. These provide local residents with facilities to dispose of garbage at designated places, resulting in reduced pollution in the area and increased sustainability of the campaign. |
