INSPIRATION’s Wrap up Event

INSPIRATION's wrap up event was held on 12th December in Zagreb. The event started with the Management Board meeting of the INSPIRATION project and was opened by Danko Markovinovic, Director General of SGA Croatia and chair of the Management Board. In the presentation he summarised the whole project and expressed satisfaction with its results, especially with the large number of initiated workshops and conferences. Markovinovic stressed out the significant role of the project in raising awareness about the importance of SDI. Project’s Task Manager from EC, Bernd Wild expressed satisfaction with the realization of the project and discontent because the project follow-up cannot be financed under the EU funds. Fritz Kroiss and Ivica Skender, INSPIRATION’s key experts, presented jointly about the INSPIRATION’s results and Final Report. Fritz Kroiss emphasized that final version of the Final Report is expected to be available in January 2014. Furthermore, he addressed the issue of continuation of support and use of the project’s web page and the regional metadata geoportal; he also announced the Farewell Package that ISNPIRATION project team will send to the beneficiaries. Each primary beneficiary organization, and also DG Enlargement, JRC and EC Delegations of Beneficiary countries, will receive the Farewale Package . The package includes copies of the English version of each country’s INSPIRE brochure, editable version of the national brochure, a CD with national version of the film, including trailer version, and a CD with all regional and national reports. Overall recommendations of the Final Report that were presented by Ivica Skender are:
Have in mind that the ultimate goal is exchange of information
Continue communication
Stimulate growth of users and use cases
Use the INSPIRATION Geoportal
Do not over-engineer
Practice data-sharing
Set good examples.

During the discussion the representatives of the INSPIRATION’s primary beneficiaries emphasized the great satisfaction with the achievements of the project, especially with the involvement of secondary and tertiary beneficiary organizations in establishment of SDI through education and awareness raising campaign. A good example of that is high interest of the broader public and the Government of Macedonia for the mash-up application on air pollution developed and implemented under the auspices of the project.

The event continued with two interesting presentations. The first one, “Capacity Building in the field of NSDI and INSPIRE – general observations”, prepared together with Andreas Wytzisk, was given by Christian Ansorge. The second one - “Regional Funds and other financial instruments available for Croatia as a new EU MS” - was prepared by Peter Tramberend and presented by Fritz Kroiss.

In the afternoon session Project’s Steering Committee meeting took place and focused minutely on already partially elaborated Final Report. After the Steering Committee meeting there was a session about the new project – IMPULS - which is about to follow up on INSPIRATION. Bernd Wild presented the new IPA II pre-accession financial assistance instruments for the EU candidate and potential candidate courtiers in his presentation “IPA II – what has changed?”. In the next presentation, Danko Markovinovic elaborated the follow up activities of the project INSPIRATION – the regional SIDA project. He emphasized that Croatia is not eligible to be the beneficiary of this project, but it is interested in participation with covering its own portion of the costs. After lively discussion, a closed session followed, with the representatives of the national cadastral agencies, the Swedish International Development Agency SIDA and Lantmäteriet, the Swedish Land Survey authority, where the Revision of the Terms of Reference document of the IMPULS Project was discussed. These activities were continued also the day after, as well, but this does not fall under the scope of the INSPIRATION’s wrap up event. Overall conclusion of the event was that INSPIRATION achieved excellent results and contributed greatly to the promotion of the SDI and INSPIRE in the Western Balkans.
