Enlargement Workshop at the INSPIRE Conference 2013 in Florence, Italy

In the heart of Tuscany, beautiful town of Florence, known as cradle of Renaissance INSPIRE Conference took place from 23rd to 27th June 2013. Conference was organized by European Commision's Joint Research Centre, Italian Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea, Italian National Institute for Environmental Protection and Research and Firenze Convention Bureau. It aimed to further exchange views and experiences on how INSPIRE is meeting past and emerging challenges and needs. Program was composed of more than 20 workshops and several plenary sessions, which that were designed to encourage debate and discussion in three areas - Showcase on Environment, Capacities and innovation, and Networking.
The Enlargement Workshop organized by Joint Research Center, had the goal to foster exchange of experiences in implementation of SDI and INSPIRE within the accession countries. Members of INSPIRATION project team Fritz Kroiss, Christian Ansorge and Ivica Skender had joint presentation INSPIRATION – Regional Perspective of INSPIRE Implementation focused on project's recent activities and recommendations for future. Team's presenter Christian Ansorge emphasized that the essence of SDI is to make spatial data and metadata available and accessible. Furthermore, in order to establish functional and quality institutional and policy framework it is necessary to build a consensus process, based common interests and common vision, Mr Ansorge stated. Sonja Dimova, as the representative of the authors of the best idea of INSPIRATION's Ideas Competition - AREC, FYR Macedonia - gave presentation focused on Protection of The Environment With Mash up of Data. Several further presentations from individual countries made the workshop an interesting opportunity to get an overview on current activities in the Western Balkans and other accession Countries.
