Biodiversity conservation and sustainable forest management

Democratic Republic Congo
KfW, 2014 - 2019
Contract value: 12,469,055 EUR

The program objective is to reduce over-exploitation of six national parks by establishing a framework for sustainable management. The program intervenes at the central level where GFA supports the Institut Congolais pour la Conservation de la Nature in the coordination and supervision of PA planning and management, and in the financial management of the program. At the field level, GFA provides advice to the park conservator and park management staff of the Lomami national park in strengthening PA management. In particular, our experts focus their consulting services on establishing and  implementing a PA management and biodiversity monitoring system. This entails assistance in strengthening the cooperation and coordination with supporting partners such as NGOs. GFA helps implement an integrated and participatory park management plan. Related co-management agreements build on the socio-economic development of local communities including the promotion of ecotourism.
