The Governance Department currently comprises 40 employees and is structured into five regional portfolios. Within this strategic business area, we focus on consultancy services in key thematic fields such as Urban Governance, Justice and Rule of Law, Peace and Security, Public Administration Reform, Public Financial Management, E-Governance, Decentralization, Social Protection, and the Promotion of Civil Society.

We are looking for three open-minded and versatile Junior Professionals (f/m/d) to join our regional teams in the Governance Department based in Hamburg. Positions are available in the following portfolios:

  • Asia and Latin America (1 position)
  • West & Central Africa (1 position)
  • East & Southern Africa (1 position)
Contribute to our mission of delivering high-quality consulting services worldwide and help shape good governance in diverse regional contexts.

Your tasks

You work under guidance of a senior consultant with increasing responsibility in the following areas:

  • Acquisition of new projects, including elaboration and coordination of technical and financial proposals in the field of urban development, decentralization, gender and civil society, peace and security, public finance management and public administration reform
  • Management of ongoing projects and studies (backstopping) on site and Hamburg-based (financial and technical administration, monitoring and evaluation of projects and studies)
  • Networking with donor agencies, beneficiaries, partner companies or institutions, subcontractors and experts
  • Participation in field missions
  • Elaboration of reports, concepts and presentations and contribution to knowledge and quality management
  • Representing GFA in conferences and seminars

Your profile

General profile for all positions

  • 1 - 2 years of relevant work experience (incl. internships) in one or more of the above-mentioned fields
  • Past working experience in developing countries and/or in development cooperation will be considered an asset
  • Past working experience with International Financial Institutions will be considered an asset
  • Willingness to travel abroad and to remote areas
  • Strong writing, communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to manage complex situations under tight schedules


Specific profile for the respective regions

Junior Professional in the Asia & Latin America Portfolio

  • University degree (MA) in urban development/governance, political or social sciences, law, economics, international development or public administration
  • Full proficiency in written and spoken English and Spanish, and working knowledge in German is a prerequisite

 Junior Professional in the West & Central Africa Portfolio

  • University degree (MA) in political or social sciences, law, economics, international development, public administration, or regional studies
  • Full proficiency in written and spoken English and French (B2) is a prerequisite, working knowledge in German is an asset
  • First regional experience and a specific interest for the region is an asset
 
Junior Professional in the East & Southern Africa Portfolio

  • University degree (MA) in economics, international development or public administration or related area
  • Full proficiency in written and spoken English is a prerequisite, working knowledge in German is an asset
  • Working experience in one or more of the following fields is an asset:
    - Public Finance Management
    - Digital transformation
    - Social Protection
