Project description

This EU-funded technical assistance project aims to strengthen public financial management (PFM) in Bangladesh by supporting key government institutions in implementing the PFM Reform Strategy 2025–2030. The project focuses on improving fiscal governance through digitalization, enhanced revenue systems, better budget planning, and stronger macroeconomic statistics.

Job description

The Data and Statistics Expert will support the project by strengthening statistical systems, data quality, and analytical capacity within key public institutions. The role focuses on improving the production and use of macroeconomic and socioeconomic data to inform evidence-based policymaking and enhance transparency in public financial management.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Provide technical expertise in data analysis, statistical modelling, and quantitative research to support PFM reforms. 
  • Strengthen data systems and quality, including development of data platforms, methodologies, and quality assurance processes. 
  • Support production and improvement of macroeconomic and socioeconomic statistics for policy-making and public dissemination. 
  • Promote digitalization and data governance, ensuring alignment with international standards and best practices. 
  • Ensure quality and reliability of outputs, delivering robust, evidence-based analysis. 
  • Support capacity building and knowledge transfer for national institutions in data management and statistical analysis.

Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in statistics, data science, mathematics or another relevant field (or, in the case of a Bachelor’s degree, an additional 4 years of relevant professional experience) is required.
  • Excellent command of oral and written English (C1) is required.
  • At least 7 years of experience in data analysis, statistical modelling and/or quantitative research in the public sector is required.
  • At least 5 years of experience designing and implementing statistical data-collection systems/surveys and/or data quality assurance processes within the public sector is required.
  • Previous experience in data management/statistics in Southern Asia is required.
