Heads of state and high-ranking delegations of twelve compact countries, and representatives of German corporations have followed the invitation of Chancellor Angela Merkel to an Africa investment summit in Berlin on 19 Nov, 2019. The Compact with Africa Summit was the second of its kind, this time hosted by the German Industry and Trade Federation (DIHK). The African Business Network as the third pillar of the German government's development investment fund has participated in the event with its own booth. The Network's branch office and its partners in German export trade promotion have contributed delegates and information material.

Britta Ziemann, Head of the Coordination Office for the African Business Network in Berlin, has taken the opportunity for talks with interested corporate representatives and other visitors. To everyone's surprise, one of them was federal Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), Peter Altmaier.

The African Business Network constitutes the third pillar of the German government's development investment fund, announced by Chancellor Angela Merkel in October 2018. TheCoordination Office for the African Business Network offers a range of consulting and support services to companies intending to engage in Africa. The focus is on comprehensive advisory services, identifying and assessing business opportunities and closing information gaps. The Coordination Office for the African Business Network allocates so-called Africa partners to interested companies so that the latter have access to tailor-made advice and market development - from initial business ideas to their successful implementation.

Since mid October 2019, BMWi has trusted GFA with managing the branch office of the African Business Network in Berlin. This project has an initial duration of two years with an extension option of another two years, and is implemented by a nine-person team.
