The GFA Energy department has successfully finished the GIZ project “Assessment of energy efficiency service market potentials in Egypt and the feasibility of establishing a Super Energy Service Company (Super ESCo)”. The final workshop took place on 15 December 2021 and was attended by numerous representatives among others included, the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Petroleum, and the Ministry of Finance. Further donors and stakeholders were represented, such as KfW, World Bank, AfD, and the National Bank of Egypt. The workshop was carried out via hybrid attendance comprised of approximately 30 participants in person along with about 20 more who attended via online linkage. All of these attendees were high level representatives from IFIs, Ministries, and local banks.

GFA experts have examined the potential to establish the first Egyptian Super ESCO. The final report encourages the establishment of a Super ESCO and elaborates on three ownership scenarios while clarifying the next steps to follow. The Team Lead is Svetlana Adamek with the national expert Mohamed Abdelhameed. They were supported by the legal expert, Donia ElMazghouny and three GFA in-house experts, Zoran Kapor and Laura Wiehler and Deborah Ayres.
