OFFICIAL EPHYTO PROJECT LAUNCH - GFA SUPPORTS THE DIGITALIZATION OF THE GLOBAL FIJIAN AGRI-FOOD TRADE

In the presence of numerous distinguished guests from Fiji‘s private and public sectors, the Fiji ePhyto project was officially launched on 18 July 2022 in Suva, Fiji. GFA is implementing the project on behalf of the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation.

Through this project, GFA works with the Biosecurity Authority Fiji (BAF) as local partner, to significantly increase the use of electronic Phytosanitary Certificates (ePhyto) in Fiji, developed under the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC). The widespread implementation of the ePhyto system will help to modernize Fiji’s phytosanitary documentation quickly, accurately, and at a low cost.

The project, expected to conclude in mid-2023, involves connecting traders and satellite BAF offices to the new system, providing appropriate training on the necessary IT equipment, and assisting BAF in reviewing and revising its practices to take full advantage of the digitalization process.

The Launch Event raised awareness among target stakeholders that introducing the IPPC ePhyto solution will digitalize the secure and efficient trade in plant products. The project will strengthen Fiji’s capacity for agricultural-based economic development, benefiting both consumers and individual businesses.

The project is part of the collaboration between the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation and the IPPC. It is financed by the World Economic Forum, which contracted GFA for the implementation.
