From December 2019 to September 2020 the consortium GFA-GCI carried out the “Preparatory Study for the Land Management Project Laos (LMPL)”, funded by KfW.

In close cooperation with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Department of Land, the team of international and local consultants proposed concrete intervention measures as well as conception and planning of the new land management project in Lao PDR. In the eight northern provinces of Laos an estimated 620,000 plots of land still lack land titles. Therefore, the LMPL will survey and process land titles in the dababase “LaoLandReg” and generate land ownership titles for about 500,000 plots. In addition, about 100,000 existing titles will be digitized and imported into the system. A standardized national cadaster and land registration system can contribute to poverty alleviation by limiting illegal land transactions.
