“Enabling Access to Justice, Civil Society Participation and Transparency” (EnACT), a GIZ supported project in Zambia, just won the Techtrends Zambia Awards 2022 under the category “Tech for Good”. The Techtrends Zambia Awards is an annual event, which seeks to recognise companies, products and individuals who are making a positive impact on the industry and driving technological progress in Zambia.

Within this programme, which aims to improve access to justice in Zambia, particularly for vulnerable groups, GFA was assigned to implement a needs assessment among legal aid providers in Lusaka, the Copperbelt and Southern provinces. Additionally, GFA conducted a scoping of the Legal Tech system in Zambia and the facilitation of the country’s first regional LegalTech Conference. During the LegalTech Conference stakeholders co-developed different innovative digital tools for the legal aid sector. As a result, the GFA project team identified recommendations for LegalTech, which included piloting digital tools that can support the delivery of legal aid services in Zambia through the work of paralegals working at Legal Service Units, Police Stations or Correctional Facilities.
