LOOKING BACK ON A MILESTONE: MUNICIPAL ENERGY PLANS FOR 20 UKRAINIAN COMMUNITIES
The project “Support for 20 Municipalities in Developing Municipal Energy Plans (MEPs)”, carried out within the framework of the GIZ initiative “Promoting Energy Efficiency and the Implementation of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive in Ukraine”, is nearing completion. From 6–8 May, experts from GFA Consulting Group conducted a series of impactful workshops focused on the development of MEPs for 20 Ukrainian communities – a crucial step towards enhanced energy efficiency and sustainable development at the local level.
The workshops brought together key stakeholders, including Gregor Brömling (Project Director), representatives from the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), and representatives from the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine.
As most participating municipalities are now entering the finalisation phase of their MEPs, the sessions focused on outlining the next steps, including:
- Identifying typical sustainable energy projects at municipal level
- Evaluating and prioritising MEP projects
- Securing appropriate financing options
- Drafting medium-term local implementation programmes
- Conducting targeted cluster consultations with expert mentors
