PROGRESS IN PROMOTING RENEWABLE ENERGY IN WEST AFRICA
GFA Consulting Group, in collaboration with GIZ and the ECOWAS Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREE), is proud to announce significant progress in the promotion of renewable energy in the ECOWAS region.
During an ECOWAS Regional Validation Workshop for West African Clean Energy Corridor (WACEC) Draft Documents held on 14 June in Banjul, Gambia, two key documents developed by GFA, the "Regional Directive on the Promotion of Solar Photovoltaic Power Projects" and the "Catalogue of Guarantees and Insurances for Stakeholders" were validated. These initiatives are part of the WACEC, which aims to facilitate the integration of variable renewable energy into the regional power pool. Both the policy and the catalog would not only promote the development of clean energy, but also provide a framework of protection for those involved in these projects.
GFA is providing technical assistance under the Promotion of Climate Friendly Electricity Market, ProCEM II program, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and GIZ, to support the development of an enabling framework in the region for utility-scale renewable energy power plants and their integration into West African power systems.
GFA remains committed to advancing sustainable energy in West Africa and promoting a climate-friendly electricity market. We look forward to continuing to work with GIZ, ECREE and relevant regional stakeholders to advance a greener energy future in West Africa.
