Posted on 7 Oct, 2026 by Kudzai Mubaiwa and Moritz Fichtl

On Wednesday, 30th September, SOMO Africa, in collaboration with GFA Consulting Group and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, celebrated the graduation of 150 SMEs from Nairobi and Kiambu counties.  The businesses successfully completed the SME Loop programme, which began in January 2026.

Implemented under the GIZ project “Improving Framework Conditions for Sustainable Business Development of MSMEs in Kenya”, the programme combined nine months of classroom training and individual coaching It helped SMEs strengthen their business operations, improve their production processes and become better prepared to access finance and markets.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, GIZ Programme Director Dr Christoph Zipfel congratulated the 150 entrepreneurs and encouraged them to continue on their growth paths, build competitive businesses and pursue markets beyond Kenya.

Coaches commended the entrepreneurs for their commitment and the progress they had made throughout the programme. Participating SMEs, in turn, shared how the support had helped them grow, formalise their businesses, strengthen their soft skills and improve their investor readiness. GFA is proud of this collaboration and aims to train a total of 350 businesses by the time the programme ends in mid-2027.
