TANZANIA: YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PRORAM – TENNIS LESSONS FOR COVID-19 RECOVERY

Posted on 1 Dec, 2020 by GFA

The Youth Development Program (YDP), aims to use sport, especially tennis, as a tool to empower disadvantaged and vulnerable youths. Sport improves health, emotional well-being and develops the life skills surrounding teamwork, leadership, decision-making and communication. Tennis lessons are provided twice a week and English is also taught on Saturdays which simultaneously enables discussions on critical issues such as HIV/AIDS and COVID-19 to take place in a fun and interactive way on sport courts. The improved education provides talented and committed youths with a pathway to success via enabling a way for them to qualify for international scholarships. Two tennis tournaments are planned during the project period.

This project was initiated by Dr. Thomas Walter (TL GFA) - he is the captain of the tennis section and a passionate patron of the YDP since 2009 in Tanzania.
