Fishery surveillance, Phase V
GFA has been supporting the management of fishery resources in Mauritania since 2003, with a focus on improving coastal fisheries monitoring and coastal surveillance. We provide technical, organisational and human resources support to our partners in their mission to monitor and control Mauritanian and international fishing vessels through the installation of a satellite-based surveillance system and the parallel installation of a radar-based and physical control system. The local administration and the local population will cooperate in the monitoring of the park, as it plays a central role as a breeding and growth habitat for the conservation of Mauritanias coastal fishery resources.
Specific objectives of the programme:
- The VMS / VMS and AIS satellite system is consolidated.
- Coastal surveillance ensures the coverage of the Mauritanian coast according to the criteria established in the littoral surveillance plan.
- The fight against illegal fishing activities of artisanal kind in the National Park Banc dArguin (PNBA) is reinforced.
- The technical service at the port of Nouadhibou and along the coast which serves the coastal stations is improved.
