Sustainable management of natural resources

Cameroon
KfW, 2011 - 2018
Contract value: 4,117,478 EUR

The program for sustainable management of natural resources was to establish and manage three national parks in the South West Region of Cameroon. About 100 villages in the buffer zone around these parks were involved in collaborative park management and benefitted from village development investments. Other activities related to the monitoring of the forest management of concessions, the establishment and management of the council and community forest as well as the elaboration and implementation of land use conflict management strategies among various stakeholders. A sustainable financing mechanism for the national park management was developed as part of the exit strategy of the program. GFA acted as fund manager and program coordinator in support of the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife. The complex program was a cooperation between the Ministry in charge, KfW, GIZ, WCS and WWF. The main role of GFA was to manage and coordinate the program as well as to administer the disposition fund and the program component community forest. An instruction mission in 2014 led to a 12-month project extension and upgrade with additional activities and budget (considered as Phase III).
