LAUNCH OF CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR THE MATCHING GRANTS FACILITY FOR AGRIBUSINESS (MGFA) IN GIZ CLIPAD PROGRAMME

Posted on 23 Jul, 2026 by Constanze Schaaff

As part of a GCF and BMZ-funded, GIZ-managed SU-I-GFLM project in the Lao PDR, GFA supported the design and establishment of a Matching-Grant Facility for Agribusinesses (MGFA) that has since been appro-ved and is overseen by the Department of Forestry (DoF) and Environment and Forest Protection Fund (EFF) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, and GIZ.

> On 26th May, 2026, the MGFA Call for Proposals for 2026 was officially issued by the Department of Forestry.

GFA further supported the DoF in organising introductory workshops in each of the six project provinces, as well as online, between 29 June and 18 July, to inform agribusinesses about the programme and support them in preparing their applications and investment proposals. The workshops were highly successful. Not only did attendance exceed expectations, with 306 participants representing 165 agribusinesses, but attendees also raised a wide range of questions, all of which were addressed during the sessions.

In terms of inclusiveness, 31% of participants identified as female and 69% as male. No data could be collec-ted on the number of participants identifying as transgender or as belonging to other LGBTQ+ groups. The attendance figures should be viewed in the context of the challenging travel conditions in northern Lao PDR during July, which falls in the middle of the rainy season. For many participants, attending the workshops required several hours of travel over roads with limited accessibility. Please see the accompanying photo-graphs for an impression of workshop attendance.
