DEFYING THE PANDEMIC WITH NEW IDEAS IN TUNISIA

Ever since November 2017, GFA has been implementing the Innovative Training in the Milk Value Chain component (FiL) as part of the Green Innovation Center Tunisia. This involves the development and implementation of a comprehensive training concept targeted at small-scale and medium-sized dairy farms, including the production of training materials, the qualification of trainers and the organization of producer trainings. Large regional events for information and awareness raising were no longer allowed to take place due to COVID pandemic restrictions. As a creative response, the FiL Mobile was initiated. The GFA team started traveling and organizing road shows in rural areas, using a well-equipped mobile tent for about 50 participants and an attractive program.

The FiL Mobile visits in the countryside are edutainment events with videos, discussions, panels and practical demonstrations. A film specifically produced for the FiL Mobile humorously reflects the lives of small-scale milk producers and takes the participants on board showcasing the daily DOs and DONTs of milk production. To the audience’s amusement, even the cows have a say in the film. In this way, the team communicates the core message to farmers and a wider audience that education is the key to successful dairy production and better living conditions. Half of the 50 planned events have already been held. The active involvement of the people is impressive. More than 90% of the participants registered to attend subsequent 4-day producer training courses offered by the FiL component. The team can hardly keep up with the demand and is happy about the success.
