GREEN BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT PROJECT IN JORDAN SUCCESSFULLY CONCLUDED
The Green Business Development Project in Jordan was successfully concluded in mid 2023, after BMZ had commissioned GIZ with the implementation of the Green Action in Enterprises (GAIN) project to support stakeholders in the introduction of green economy approaches to the industrial sector. GFA in partnership with WEE Pros Jordan, was responsible for the component “Creating a Green Business Development Ecosystem in Jordan”. The latter aimed at strengthening the capacities of business development service (BDS) providers and their networks, and delivering green BDS services to Jordanian industrial enterprises.
The project team in close cooperation with Jordanian partners facilitated workshops for green BDS providers in technical and business-related fields, and supported them in consulting industrial enterprises concerning the greening of their production. The industrial enterprises covered five sectors, namely food processing, textiles, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and packaging. The participating companies targeting enhanced energy efficiency, solid waste management and water management elaborated action plans based on the recommendations of the consulting services in order to implement these actions after the project ends. In the process, the capacities of selected green BDS providers in the field of environmentally friendly and resource efficient production were strengthened.
One of the highlights of their work was a report on the supply of and demand for green BDS by medium to large-sized firms in selected industrial sectors in Jordan that was published by GIZ in late 2022.
Because of the manifold project achievements, the project team won praise from local partners such as the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, the Jordan Chamber of Industry, and the Jordan Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund.
