PROJECT START IN PERU: PROMOTION AND SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT OF FOREST PRODUCTION
On November 15, GFA's Natural Resources Management and Environment department signed a new contract with Peru's National Forestry and Wildlife Service (SERFOR) for nearly 2 million euros in technical assistance for the program, which is financed by KfW on behalf of German-Peruvian cooperation.
In preparation for the start of the project "Promotion and SustainableManagement of Forest Production in Peru", our team leader Dr. Roberto Kometter and the financial administrator Xavier Nunez Rosales visited GFA headquarters and were introduced to the core processes of GFA.
The program finances activities that promote forest management based on sustainability and productivity criteria and thus contribute to reducing deforestation, mitigating climate change and conserving biodiversity in Peru. It includes investments to improve and expand (1) commercial forest plantations for productive forest development in seven departments, (2) sustainable forest production in natural forests in five departments, and (3) forest management in nine departments.
